Vitamin E is an antioxidant that has an important protective function in the body, as it is attributed an ability to neutralize the so-called the free radicals that break down the muscles at work. Vitamin E counteracts the oxidation in the body's cells caused by free radicals - a process that, unhindered, leads to damage to the cells. Vitamin E also participates in the supply of oxygen to the muscles and in the formation of blood vessels and is important for the immune system and fertility.

The horse receives via the inhaled air a greater amount of free radicals the more it works, which means that the need for vitamin E increases during hard work. The need varies with the composition of the feed state, training and the horse's performance level. Other circumstances that increase vitamin E requirements are cold, feeding with fresh oats, acidified feed and pregnancy.

Lack of vitamin E in the feed state can lead to muscle damage. Vitamin E is fat-soluble and is stored in the muscles, adipose tissue and liver. It is important not to overdose on vitamin E.

SeloE contains selenium which is a trace element which has an important physiological function in horses. Selenium is part of the enzyme that neutralizes free radicals (substances that are formed during the body's consumption of oxygen). The free radicals have a destructive effect on the body's tissues and cause its aging. Selenium helps to slow down that process. It also plays an important role in the immune system and is required for the white blood cells to be able to fight bacteria and other microorganisms effectively. Selenium interacts with vitamin E and they both complement and strengthen each other's effect. They can to some extent also replace each other.

In most places in Sweden, the soils suffer from a lack of natural selenium. Therefore, most Swedish feed materials are poor in this substance. SeloE consists of vitamin E and organically bound selenium. Organically bound harness is more easily absorbed by the horse, which is well documented. This is due to the fact that all selenium in the plant kingdom is bound in this way. Using organically bound selenium also reduces the risk of overdose. SeloE also contains the prebiotic inulin, which naturally contributes to better mineral absorption in the intestine. Inulin is also beneficial for the entire stomach.
