Pure salt of food grade. Use Eclipse Biofarmabs Salt when you want control over your horse's salt intake. Daily supplement, mixed in the concentrate in relation to weather and the horse's work.
The horse's sweat is what is called hypertension, which means that the sweat contains a higher concentration of ions than blood and body fluids in general. Ions are important for maintaining what is called "voltage potential" across the cells' membranes and walls, which is crucial for the body's ability to transport water between cells.
Hard-working horses can quickly develop electrolyte imbalance and dehydration as a result of sweating. Also keep in mind that horses normally lose fluid and electrolytes when breathing, urinating and defecating. The normal daily requirement for 500 kg of horse is calculated at between 20-40 grams of salt. During the winter, when the horse sweats less, they often do not drink as much, which can contribute to dehydration.
The horse's blood has a higher content of sodium chloride - ie. salt - than man has. When the horse sweats, it therefore loses relatively large amounts of salt. These amounts are taken primarily from the blood. A horse that works hard for an hour can lose up to 130g of salt. Sodium chloride is thus the most important electrolyte. Lack of sodium can lead to decreased blood volume. Prolonged deficiency affects the body's ability to retain water and lowers body weight. Untreated, dehydration can lead to muscle cramps, inadequate oxygen, energy and fluid transport through the body. Kidney problems, inability to sweat, poor recovery after exertion are other problems.
Horses that receive electrolytes must have free access to water!
