Lime supplement for horses. Natural calcium carbonate from Scandinavia of high purity, Foderkritan is fine-grained for better absorption. 6 kg = 200 daily doses at 30 g / day.
An adult horse consists of about 1.5 kg of calcium per 100 kg of body weight and about 35% of the bone structure consists of calcium. The mineral is involved in various bodily functions such as; muscle contractions and in the blood coagulation mechanism. Calcium is needed for strong bones, especially in young horses, but also adult horses need this. Calcium is also necessary for the body's cells to function; when the calcium level in the blood drops, the extraction of calcium from the skeleton increases and a decalcification takes place.
Work increases the need for calcium for horses. A problem that can arise is that they get large amounts of cereals (which contain phosphorus), but can still suffer from calcium deficiency (despite a sufficient amount of calcium in the feed), as the ratio between calcium and phosphorus should be between 1.2: 1 and 1, 8: 1. Chalk is a very good source of calcium.
