It is common knowledge that the wild horse is able to synthesize vitamin C. However, many talented horse people over the years have found that horses in training feel good from an extra supplement of vitamin C. This view is supported by clinical studies, e.g. on young horses in Denmark, which shows that growing horses in training need vitamin C supplements. Vitamin C is needed i.a. for the formation of antibodies (counteracts infections), it helps the body absorb iron, heal wounds and supports the strength of blood vessels. Deficiency can cause fatigue, poor appetite and increased susceptibility to infections.
